There’s no doubt that the food in Mexico City is epic. As you will have seen from our guide to Mexico City restaurants the variety of food on offer is truly amazing. However, a Mexican breakfast is overlooked at your peril. Wake up with an empty stomach and get set for some serious eating. Heres the Gran Luchito guide to the best breakfast in Mexico City.
1- Café Toscano

We featured the Condesa branch of La Toscana in our 3 days in Mexico City Guide. The branch in Plaza Rio de Janeiro in La Roma is particularly nice. It has a homey decor and large communal tables which are perfect for meeting up with friends. You must try their green chilaquiles with a fried egg and chicken. If you prefer something a little sweeter they serve amazing Nutella crepes!

2- Maque

Be warned, this Mexico City breakfast spot in a secluded corner of Condesa is insanely popular! You can’t make reservations and arriving anytime after it’s 8 am opening time is probably going to involve a long wait for the table.
But trust us, its worth the wait, Maque probably serves the best breakfast in Mexico City. You have to start off with some Conchas, (a sweet pastry typical to Mexico followed by their killer Heuvos Rancheros.

3- El Cardenal

We featured this essential Mexico City Breakfast spot at the very start of our three days in Mexico City guide. El Cardenal has four restaurants across Mexico city and we recommend you simply go the location nearest your hotel. However be warned that the branch in the Hilton Alameda has often been described as ‘soleless’, however, the food is still good there.
Everything on the menu is delicious and top suggestions include their enchiladas, huevos revueltos, aporreado or gorditas.

The long communal tables are great for meeting new people or for simply admiring the amazing graffiti on the wall but Belgian Artist David Rop. The chilaquiles and asparagus with hollandaise and poached egg are a must-try as is the french bread!
